This week Year 1 celebrated the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, along with the rest of school, and we have a wonderful time! We have our very special school lunch outside, with the rest of school and had an amazing day celebrating a once in a lifetime opportunity.
Over the last few weeks, Year 1 have been having special computing lessons but a number of different teachers from Junior Jam. We have been learning some simple coding and how to keep safe online. We even designed some e-safety posters using iPads!
This week Year 1 have loved taking a walk in our local area to the library. We listened to a story and then got to read some of the amazing books there. We were even allowed to borrow 5 books for our classroom!

This week we have started to learn our new story, The Disgusting Sandwich, and have done some work to deepen our understanding of what we are reading.
First we looked at the settings in the story and made some 3D maps using paper manpulation skills.
Then we went into the cafe and made some beautiful sandwiches… which we then dropped in the sand pit, dipped in the pond, rode over them on scooters and more! Just like in the story.
We then took a walk in our local area, learning some key features of Alwoodley and road safety, as we walked to the… park!
This week we have had a wonderful time taking part in Science Week. We have been learning about animal classes and classifying animals, exploring scientific questions and we even took part in a live lesson all about mini beasts.
Over the last two weeks our ACE Geographers have been learning about the different continents and oceans of the world. We have been singing some songs to help us remember the names, as I am sure some of you will have been hearing at home, and been locating them on maps.
Today at ACE we celebrated World Book Day by dressing up as some of our favourite book characters and sharing some of our favourite stories. We even had a quiz, all about books, that we did this morning to engage Team Ant!

Year 1 were ACE Designers this week as we completed our life savers topic with building and testing our own boats. The moving propeller was a tricky element to put together but was very exciting when we set sail.
