Fire fire!

Firstly, thank you to everyone who came to celebrate with us – we were worried the rain would stop us burning our boxes but it held off and the children had a really brilliant time showing you their hard work. We hope you enjoyed the celebration and we hope the children will remember this in time to come.

A wacky week

What a fun way to end the week – raising money for comic relief by having jazzy hair do-s for the day!

We have been busy doing lots of story telling this week and have got very messy doing paper mache and fire pictures in art. The children have all been so engaged with their learning and we are looking forward to our Great Fire of London workshop in school next Friday.

World Book Day

What a brilliant day we had on Thursday. The children loved coming in fancy dress and loved looking at the costumes throughout school. Assembly was definitely more colourful than usual! We also did some magical artwork looking through the wardrobe as well as watching a clip of Lucy Pevensie first stepping into Narnia. The children were hooked!

This week we also went on a Spring walk around school to see if we could notice any differences in our environment now that Spring is approaching. We found bulbs and small flowers blooming!

First week back

Year 1 have been having a busy time this week, we have been baking scones as part of DT, collaging in Art, writing short description in Writing and much more! Pancake day was a hit with our pancake breakfast in the hall too.

1F also were chosen to take part in a theatre workshop this afternoon and learnt how to be actors on the stage! We acted out the story of The Enormous Crocodile, we danced each scene and performed silently!

Enjoy some pictures from the past few days.

Christmas performances

Firstly we would like to say a huge well done to the children for the amazing performances they have put on this week. We have been practicing every day and we know this has been tiring for them and has been out of routine – however having our families in to watch has made it all worth while. Every child had a part to play and we are incredibly proud of them all (especially when the music cut out on Thursday and we sang It Was on a Starry Night acapella!!)

Moor Allerton library

1F and 1BN enjoyed walking down to Moor Allerton library this week. We were a little worried about the weather but we got lucky both days we went down and the children weren’t too soggy on arrival back at school! The children enjoyed listening to Madeline (librarian) who talked us through how to join the local library, choose books and how to take them away. The children loved this and enjoyed looking at the books at the library. A huge thank you to all parent volunteers – trips cannot go ahead without you, so we always appreciate the support. 1DT are really excited to go to the library on Wednesday.

Making soup

For the past couple of weeks, we have been learning about instruction writing as part of our non-fiction topic. We have been taking part in different activities all whilst following instructions and learning their key features. We prepared a carrot for cooking, washed our hands very thoroughly, learnt the steps in brushing your teeth and finally we made soup! The children then did a piece of independent writing, showcasing their learning and they all did a brilliant job.

On Friday the children also took part in an anti-bullying picket on the playground. We had designed our own posters during the week and we’re proud to hold them high to show the other children and teachers during the march. We chanted ‘no more bullying’, ‘be kind’, ‘say no to bullying’. The children were very proud of their artwork and understood what we were marching for. Enjoy a slideshow of photos from the picket.
